There are few places in the US that can compete with Charleston in the springtime for photo opportunities. During the long weekend you’re here we will explore the lowcountry and photograph at several iconic locations, choosing from Magnolia Plantation and Gardens, Boone Hall, Beidler Forest Adubon Sanctuary, Caw Caw Interpretive Center, Ravenel Bridge, McLeod Plantation, and Bulls Island (to shoot Boneyard Beach at sunrise). What's more, your leader is a full time professional photographer and photography workshop leader, and is currently pursuing certification as a Coastal South Carolina Master Naturalist, so he can bring you a more knowledgeable natural history experience.
What we'll photograph
This time of year we’ll be expecting to see the plantation gardens at their floral best, and combine that with the proliferation of wildlife, and sunrise and sunset photo ops, we’ll have a busy weekend. Plus, we’ll be experiencing the charm, hospitality, and restaurants that Charleston and the lowcountry are renowned for.
We’ll set aside time during the day to discuss technique to assess how to improve your imagery, and we’ll have classroom time for presentations and image reviews.
What you'll learn:
We'll be using techniques to capture everything from landscapes and wildlife. You'll be learning how to use your camera's focus systems to capture fast moving objects, sometimes in low light. Changing ISO, shutter speeds and apertures to maximize your creativity and achieve technical accuracy, too. You'll also learn about composition, best practices for photographing wildlife, and if time and lack of sleep allows, we'll have image review sessions and a presentation or two.
